Tips for anxiety

Feeling anxious is normal when facing a dangerous situation, and a little anxiety can even help keep us safe and motivated. However, when anxiety symptoms like constant worrying thoughts and feelings of apprehension and dread prevent you from doing what you love or living fully, you might need extra support. Here is an example of a strategy that may help:

  • Bodily sensations such as a racing heart, sweaty palms and shaking legs may feel out of your control when you are anxious. If we can slow our heart rate down by breathing slowing in and out we can calm these bodily sensations down and ease our anxious feeling. Try breathing in for the count of four – hold for the count of four – and breath out for the count of four – hold for the count of four. Repeat until your heart rates slows.
